Two Goals From Corners: 3-0 Win Against Türkiyemspor

Four months without a home game—now, it was finally time again! For the first home game of the year, we welcomed Türkiyemspor for a Berlin Derby. Lichterfelde versus Kreuzberg under grey skies. However, on the pitch, the Sky Blues prevailed: Viktoria secured a clear 3-0 win!

FC Viktoria Dominated, But No Goals For A Long Time.

The roles in the game were as clear as the final score suggested—Viktoria dominated from the start. However, it took quite a while for the first goal to come. Up until shortly before the, it remained the only goal of the match.

In the first half, Viktoria struggled. Most of the action took place in the midfield, with little happening in front of either team's goals. Captain Marlies Sänger managed to get into the opponent's the second minute, but her shot was blocked. Ten minutes later, Aylin Yaren tested Türkiyemspor’s goalkeeper with a well-taken free kick from around 25 metres out.

Ehegötz forced off with an injury

Another promising attack ended in a particularly bitter moment: once again, it was Yaren who initiated it, playing a perfect through ball between two Türkiyemspor defenders for Nina Ehegötz. The striker took off and would have been clear through—but then suddenly grapped her hamstring and slowed down. A few minutes later, Carol Cázares came on to replace her (26’).

Just before halftime, Viktoria played more aggressively, especially in duels—but it didn’t pay off. It wasn’t until nine minutes after the restart that the ball finally hit the back of the net: Yaren was in the right place at the right time, completely unmarked, to tap in a rebound from the Kreuzberg keeper (54’). 1-0 for Viktoria, and the crowd breathed a sigh of relief.

Late Double Strike To Boost The Goal Difference

This goal didn’t change the flow of the game much. Most of the action continued between the halfway line and Türkiyemspor’s penalty area. Viktoria remained in control, but there wasn’t much urgency to push forward. Some minor fouls also disrupted the rhythm. It wasn’t until the end of the match that things picked up again: FC Viktoria wanted to add more and they did, through captain Sänger (82’) and center-back Anna Höfker (90+3’). Both goals came from right-side corners. Sänger nudged the ball over the line with the tip of her foot just before it seemed to be heading out of play, while Höfker scored with a header. This was the defender’s third goal of the season, placing her fifth in the club’s top scorer list behind Sänger.

Next week, we head to Bischofswerda to face Bischofswerdaer FV. The following week will be something special: we’ll host the league leaders from Köpenick. In the first leg, we narrowly lost 1-0. At Stadion Lichterfelde, we’re eager to settle that score.
