Elimination in the first main round: FC Viktoria Berlin's players put in a courageous performance against Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, but ultimately had to admit defeat with a score of 1-3 (1-2).

In beautiful late summer sunshine, the action started quickly at the Lichterfelde stadium: two early corners for Viktoria (2'), which came to nothing, and a free kick from the right, which Eintracht cleared in a scramble (5'). Right from the start, the game was characterized by intense tackles.

Himmelblau put up a strong defense against Frankfurt's Bundesliga offense, which included national team player Nicole Anyomi. Frankfurt frequently applied pressure and created danger, disrupting the build-up early on, but in the end, a Viktoria player always got a foot in.

Tschudin saves penalty

After just over half an hour, referee Dr. Riem Hussein blew her whistle: a penalty for Frankfurt. FCV goalkeeper Michèle Tschudin had come out of her box to punch a ball out of her penalty area, but in doing so she also caught Frankfurt's İlayda Açıkgöz (18'). Referee Dr. Hussein showed a yellow card and awarded a penalty, which Tschudin saved after a long treatment break (26')!

Viktoria went on the attack and produced a wonderful combination: Pia Metzker won the ball on the right, saw Kim Urbanek in front of her, who played the ball to Nina Ehegötz in the penalty area. Unfortunately, our captain missed the perfect touch, and the shot was no problem for Eintracht goalkeeper Lina Altenburg (27').

Just as things seemed to be calming down a bit, the ball ended up in the net, this time for our guests from Hesse. After a pass from Remina Chiba, Anyomi pushed the ball over the line, putting Viktoria 0-1 behind (36').

Quick counterattack by FCV

However, Himmelblau didn't let that sit for long: just four minutes later, cheers and goal music rang out through the Lichterfelde stadium: the strong Metzker had completed a great attack! Ehegötz drove the attack down the left to almost the baseline, Kim Urbanek was in the center and missed, but Metzker scored from the right (40'). The score was tied at 1-1! Shortly afterwards, Metzker took another shot at goal, but this time it went straight to goalkeeper Altenburg (45').

And that wasn't the end of the first half – unfortunately, for Viktoria. The last word in the very long stoppage time (treatment for İ. Açıkgöz) belonged to Eintracht, or more precisely Chiba, who made it 2-1 at the break (45+8).

Viktoria battles against Bundesliga side

The first opportunity after the break fell to FCV: the lively Ehegötz dribbled into Frankfurt's penalty area, but her shot was slightly delayed and ended up straight in the goalkeeper's arms (50'). At the other end, Anyomi hit the side netting (53').

Both teams battled it out in the second half, with Viktoria not holding back. But after 70 minutes, Nicole Anyomi made it 1-3, and six minutes later Victoria Ezebinyuo received her second yellow card (76'). Yellow-red, sent off, outnumbered at 1-3 – but the team did not give up. In stoppage time, the Himmelblaue gave it their all, substitute Sarah Stöckmann hit the side netting from a corner, but then it was over.

Just checked the one-million-prediction on DrawPredictionToday.com and it caught me by surprise. It isn’t just “team A wins” – they provide context like fatigue, defensive trends, and recent form. I found myself pausing before kickoff, thinking “okay, does this match follow their logic?” It changed how I watch the game, not just bet on it. Even when I don’t place a bet, reading their breakdown feels like gaining an insight into the match.
