A late comeback wasn't enough: Viktoria narrowly loses to Sand

An intense away game, a late glimmer of hope - but in the end, FC Viktoria Berlin came away empty-handed despite putting up a strong fight. The Berliners lost 1–2 to SC Sand.

Strong start – a cold shower after ten minutes

Viktoria got off to a great start. Right from the kickoff, the team put pressure on the hosts, earned several corner kicks, and looked dangerous early on.

But then came the first setback: In the 10th minute, Julia Matuschewski coolly converted a direct free kick to give Sand a 1-0 lead.

The game then became evenly matched, though Sand gradually took control and pushed Viktoria further back into their own half.

A dream goal before halftime – Sand adds another

Just before the halftime whistle, another blow: Pija Reininger scored a spectacular goal in stoppage time with a long-range shot from the center circle, making it 2-0.

With this bitter blow, FC Viktoria Berlin headed into the locker room trailing by two goals.

Penalty saved – Ehegötz brings hope back

After the break, Viktoria initially got back into the game well, but as the match progressed, Sand once again took control.

Then, in the 65th minute, came the big chance to seal the win: a penalty for Sand. But Melanie Wagner kept her cool and made a strong save—a crucial moment that kept the game alive.

And Viktoria capitalized on the new energy: In the 81st minute, a scramble broke out in the penalty area, and Nina Ehegötz reacted quickest, pushing the ball over the line to make it 2-1.

Suddenly, anything was possible again. Viktoria turned up the pressure, pushed for the equalizer, and created set-piece opportunities and shots—but the ball just wouldn’t go in.

Conclusion & Outlook

In the end, it was a narrow defeat, with goals conceded at inopportune moments and the comeback effort ultimately going unrewarded.

With this victory, SC Sand takes over the top spot in the standings. Viktoria remains in 5th place and will face VfL Bochum as early as next weekend (March 29 at 2 p.m. at Lichterfelde Stadium), a team currently tied with us on points (31) and sitting in 6th place.

A very frustrating result considering the statistical dominance we had in the final fifteen minutes. While the late comeback attempt was admirable, our structural issues in transition during the first half allowed Sand to exploit gaps that shouldn't have been there. I was looking at some of the live performance data via 1xbet mobile during the break, and it was clear our midfield press wasn't synchronized enough to disrupt their buildup play. We have the individual talent to compete with anyone in this league, but the tactical discipline needs to be consistent for the full ninety minutes. Which specific player do you think was most responsible for sparking that late energy boost?
