Against Bochum: FCV bags first win of the season!

The top teams seem to suit Viktoria: After drawing with league leaders Sand, FC Viktoria Berlin secured their first win of the season (3-0) against third-placed VfL Bochum.

The tone of the match was set early on at Bochum's Lohrheidestadion: Viktoria defender Anna Ursem received the first yellow card of the match in the third minute (3'). Overall, the match was characterised by intense tackles, but our Viktoria team also dominated the action. And so it was that after a good twenty minutes, the ball ended up in the net for the first time! Captain Nina Ehegötz had put it there, but she was offside when Victoria Ezebinyuo passed her the ball (21').

No goals for half-time

However, the chances kept coming: Eunice Beckman attempted an overhead kick from Maya Hahn's chip ball to the penalty spot, but it went over the goal (22'), Laura Casanovas tested VfL goalkeeper Kari Närdeman (25'); and Pia Metzker's shot from the edge of the penalty area was just blocked by Antonia Haase (29'). All this within a few minutes - Viktoria was on the front foot. However, Bochum also had chances from time to time, with Michèle Tschudin having to parry a shot from Emily Joester (25') and the team clearing the ball from Anna-Luisa Figueira Marques (40'+2). With our FCV having the upper hand in terms of play, the score remained 0-0 at half-time.

The second half saw another hard-fought battle in midfield, with Himmelblau once again gaining the upper hand. And now Miren Ćatović's team finally got their reward. The players put pressure on VfL as they built up their attack, Henrike Sahlmann won the ball and drove towards goal. After beating Kärdemann, she passed to Sarah Abu Sabbah, who only had to tap in to make it 1-0 (70').

Stöckis stunning free-kick

Our Viktoria had been in the lead a few times this season, so far they had always conceded an equaliser - not today, though. As the game progressed, Himmelblau didn't let up. On the contrary, shortly before the end, they increased the score in spectacular fashion. Or rather, Sarah Stöckmann increased the score. From a good 25 metres out, she curled a free kick directly into the top left corner, 2-0, a spectacular goal (81') and her first of the season! And that wasn't all. In stoppage time, Senanur Yavuz also scored her first goal for Viktoria when she made a beautiful solo run, rounded the Bochum goalkeeper and slotted into the empty net (90+1).

The 3-0 win against VfL Bochum gives us three important points, which lift us out of the relegation zone for the time being. It will be a while until the next match day, but on Sunday, 2 November, at 2 p.m., FC Bayern Munich's second team will be coming to Lichterfelde.
