Big Win Against Bischofswerda Secures Viktoria Berlin the Top of the Table

Three matchdays in, the league is starting to take shape, and the first conclusions can be drawn. For Viktoria Berlin, that means securing the top spot in the table. After last week's commanding 5-0 victory against Türkiyemspor, Sunday brought another big win, this time against Bischofswerdaer FV.

Clear from the Start

Bischofswerda, who had previously beaten RB Leipzig's second team 2-1, stood no chance against a strong Viktoria side. Early in the game, a misplaced pass in midfield by the Himmelblauen gave Bischofswerda a free kick. However, that standard, deep in their own half, was the only moment for a long time that posed any threat to Viktoria’s goal.

Kim Urbanek got things going with the first shot for Viktoria (4th minute), followed by Anna Höfker a minute later (5th minute). For the time being, Bischofswerda’s goalkeeper Laura Werner and the crossbar kept the visitors in the game. But it didn’t take long for the ball to finally hit the back of the net. Aylin Yaren, after some excellent work from the ever-impressive Danya Barsalona, made it 1-0 (10th minute).

Chances and Goals Every Minute

With the first goal in the bag, Viktoria wasted no time in extending their lead. The previously unlucky Urbanek confidently netted from distance (14th minute), the first of her four goals in this match. Two minutes later, Höfker added a header to make it 3-0, marking her first goal in Himmelblau (16th minute). Before that, Marlies Sänger had two missed headers, with Werner and the crossbar once again coming to the rescue (13th minute).

The game’s dominance was clear early on. By the 21st minute, the scoreboard read 4-0, thanks to Urbanek’s second goal of the match. The attack, consisting of Urbanek, Barsalona, Yaren, and Nina Ehegötz, produced countless chances, slick combinations, and dribbles. Sänger and captain Stephanie Gerken also had attempts on goal (21st, 35th, 40th minutes)—though without success.

Bischofswerda with No Chance

The lack of additional goals was not down to a strong defensive performance from Bischofswerda. Their organisation was lacking, and many situations were defused more by the sheer number of players in the box rather than any structured defensive effort. The visitors never posed any real danger in attack throughout the game.

The second half saw Viktoria’s dominance continue. At first, the Himmelblauen struggled slightly to break through Bischofswerda’s defensive lines, but as in the first half, the ball was in the net again within 10 minutes. Once more, it was Kim Urbanek who found the gap in the defence and placed her shot perfectly to make it 5-0 (55th minute).

More Goals in the Second Half

This 5-0 goal opened the floodgates for another flurry of goals. Just like in the first half, Viktoria quickly followed up: Yaren scored her second of the match (60th minute), and Urbanek netted her fourth (67th minute). The Himmelblauen showed no signs of slowing down. Barsalona continued to impress with her dribbles on the right wing, but she couldn’t cap her performance with a goal. Instead, substitute Natalia Stulin scored the final goal to make it 8-0.

With Union Berlin only managing a 1-0 win against RB Leipzig, Viktoria’s 8-0 thrashing puts them top of the table—and they remain the only team yet to concede a goal this season. The next league match will be against those very rivals, with a city derby against Union Berlin on Sunday, September 17th.

Before that, on September 9th, the second round of the DFB-Pokal awaits. At 16:30, FC Viktoria Berlin will face SV Henstedt-Ulzburg at Stadion Lichterfelde. Earlier in the day, at 13:00 at the same venue, FC Stern 1900 will play Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln. Combo tickets are available in the shop or at the matchday box office.
