Just a minor hiccup, otherwise it was a clear victory against FC Hansa Rostock. Our Viktoria secured a 9-1 win against the "Kogge" from the North, though we were still pushed off the top of the table.
Once again, the sun came out for FC Viktoria Berlin. On Sunday afternoon, 22nd September, at a pleasant 25°C, we hosted Hansa Rostock. Hansa's women’s football division was only established in 2023, and after their first season, they were immediately promoted from the state league to the regional league!
Quick Opening Goal by the Impressive Ehegötz
We faced a team on the rise, but the difference between them and FC Viktoria Berlin was clear from the first minute. After just four minutes, FC Viktoria Berlin had a great chance, and there was a moment of debate: "Did that ball really not go in?" The referee, Paula Kollmann, ruled that Louise Trapp’s potential goal hadn’t crossed the line (4'). The disappointment didn’t last long though, as Nina Ehegötz relieved the fans with a goal for 1-0 just moments later (5').
Hansa offered little in return, only making their first attempt forward in the 13th minute through Julia Heinschel, who was stopped in midfield by Henrike Sahlmann. FC Viktoria Berlin had everything under control and Anna Höfker doubled the lead with a header from a corner (16'). Corners became a recurring theme. For the next twenty minutes, there were mostly offside whistles and corners, as Hansa began to find their footing and defended more tightly. Not only that, but Malin Drockner and Laurentia Köhler played a good counter-attack and managed to score a temporary equalizer (34').
Ehegötz with a Hat-Trick, Urbanek With a Brace
That small hiccup was quickly forgotten because Sahlmann chipped in a beautiful long-range shot to signal the coming goal flood (37'). Nina Ehegötz made it 4-1 before half-time (43'). After the break, Rostock played a bit more aggressively, but that didn't affect the dominance of the "Himmelblauen." After narrowly missing a cross from Höfker, Trinity Künzel scored FC Viktoria's fifth goal (58'), Ehegötz completed her hat-trick (66'), and Kim Urbanek added her name to the scoresheet (70'), after two of her earlier shots had been blocked.
Coach Dennis Galleski’s substitutions were spot on. Just a minute after coming on the pitch, Natalia Stulin scored with her first action for the 8-1 (80'). Other substitutes Eunice Beckmann and Nour Youssef had narrowly missed the goal just before that (80'). The final goal of the day came from Urbanek, completing her brace (82'). However, the ninth goal didn’t have to be the last. Urbanek herself, along with Stulin and Höfker, had more chances to make it double digits (84', 87'), but the match ended 9-1.
9-1 Isn’t Enough for the Top Spot...
A great result, yet bittersweet! RB Leipzig II won 9-0 against Türkiyemspor, that means that they have the same goal difference as ours but they have scored one more goal and now sit at the top of the Regional League Northeast. This makes our next home game on 13th October even more exciting, as we'll be facing RB Leipzig II! You can get your tickets here. Before that, we kick off again in Magdeburg on 27th October.
