Once again, freezing temperatures at the Olympiapark, a sluggish start – and in the end a match that feels far more bitter for FC Viktoria Berlin than the scoreline alone suggests. Despite clear superiority in play and a strong second half, Viktoria suffer an unfortunate 0–1 defeat against Ingolstadt.
Frozen start at the Olympiapark
At our temporary home venue in the Olympiapark, both teams initially needed time to find their way into the game. The extreme cold (-8°C) was not only noticeable in the stands but also on the pitch: low tempo, few attacking moves, hardly any shots on goal. After the uneventful opening phase, Ingolstadt grew into the match mainly through set pieces.
Free kick puts Viktoria behind
The key moment of the first half came in the 33rd minute: a direct free kick from around 16 metres by Emma Kusch dipped perfectly over the wall into the far corner – unstoppable, 0–1. Shortly afterwards, goalkeeper Wagner kept Viktoria in the game with a strong one-on-one save to prevent a larger deficit. Viktoria went into the break trailing by a narrow margin.
