Our Viktoria won 7-0 at Union Berlin’s U23, boosting our goal difference while still missing a few chances.
Fans in hoodies, flags waving in the wind – autumn is coming, and it was clear on Sunday (15 September) at Dörpfeldstraße in Adlershof. While the temperatures didn’t warm us, Viktoria certainly did.
At first, the Sky Blues held back a bit to see what Union would do, and the early minutes were fairly balanced. But then Viktoria shook off the modesty and got going. The first warning came from Marta Schrey, who fired a brilliant shot following a counterattack led by Henrike Sahlmann (5’). Shortly after, we saw fantastic long-range efforts from Trinity Künzel (10’) and Kim Urbanek (12’).
Künzel Starts the Scoring Spree
It took just a few more minutes and a great save from our goalkeeper Michele Tschudin (16’) before the first goal arrived. In the next attack, Künzel found the back of the net for Union’s women (17’), and now the goals came thick and fast.
Sahlmann almost hit a stunning long-range effort off the crossbar (21’), but soon after, Urbanek scored a brilliant goal from the center for 2-0 (23’). Künzel then secured her brace (26’), just moments before Schrey smashed another dream goal into the top corner from the left (27’).
Union Keeps Pressing
Despite trailing 0-4, Union’s players didn’t shy away from showing up in front of Viktoria’s goal. They continued pressing our defense high and put Tschudin under pressure, especially from several corners. But there was no getting past FCV's goalkeeper.
Before the halftime whistle, the always-impressive Louise Trapp slotted home after a run down the right to make it 5-0 (41’). Trapp carried that attacking spirit into the second half: a shot from the left was just tipped to a corner by Union’s keeper Sherry Schulz (46’).
A Dream Goal to Close
The second half was much quieter overall, with fewer attacks from Union and fewer shots from Viktoria. After about an hour, Trapp, our second player to score a brace, made it 6-0 (63’).
The game was winding down, but Viktoria still had a final highlight in store, courtesy of Anna Berk: from the left, she sent a delicate shot from distance into the top right corner (87’). A sensational end to a fantastic match where everything seemed to go right. Just before the final whistle, Berk struck the crossbar again, but the score remained 7-0.
Viktoria Tops the Table
With this result, our Viktoria climbs to the top of the Regionalliga Nordost table, as RB Leipzig II and Hertha BSC both won their matches but now have a slightly inferior goal difference to FCV. Next week, the league leaders play at home in Lichterfelde against mid-table Hansa Rostock. Kickoff is at 2 PM, and tickets are available here!
