Early equalizer in the second half: Viktoria takes a point from Mönchengladbach

Light rain, 19℃, and 350 spectators: An intense away match unfolded in Mönchengladbach, with FC Viktoria Berlin holding the lead for much of the game — but ultimately having to settle for a 1-1 (1-0) draw.

Gladbach presses – Viktoria holds firm

The home team started the match strongly and put us under pressure early on. However, the Lichterfelde defense confidently weathered several corners in the opening minutes—once again demonstrating the stability of the league’s best defense.

Offensively, Viktoria took a while to find their rhythm. An early goal by Pia Metzker (10th minute) was disallowed due to an offside call. In the minutes that followed, there were still few clear scoring opportunities—Laura Casanovas sent a shot over the goal (15th minute).

Mönchengladbach continued to control the game but rarely created truly dangerous scoring opportunities. On the other end, Melissa Ugochukwu had a great chance to take the lead (23rd minute), but was decisively disrupted and failed to beat the goalkeeper.

Ehegötz scores the opening goal

As the game progressed, Viktoria grew increasingly into the match. A corner in the 29th minute created the first real threat, but Nina Ehegötz’s header was blocked.

Just before halftime, the moment finally arrived: Following a cross from the left, Ehegötz was once again on hand and headed the ball beautifully into the bottom left corner (44'). Despite the home team having the upper hand in terms of play, FC Viktoria Berlin went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

An open second half with a turnaround from the penalty spot

The second half began with no substitutions — and Viktoria came out of the locker room much more aggressively. The team immediately made its presence felt with a shot that hit the side netting.

But in the 53rd minute, the setback came: After a foul in the penalty area, the referee awarded a penalty kick, which Lili Jones-Baidoe confidently converted to tie the score at 1-1.

The match became more open, with both teams pushing forward. Alisa Grincenco had a chance to restore the lead but hit the crossbar (57th minute). Between the 55th and 61st minutes, a real back-and-forth battle ensued with chances on both sides.

Changes bring new energy – decision still pending

Coach Miren Ćatović responded by bringing on fresh legs: Abu Sabbah, Künzel, and Wasiak entered the game in the 64th minute, followed later by Stöckmann (72') and Sahlmann (83').

But the home team remained dangerous as well — the crossbar came to Viktoria’s rescue once again when Jones-Baidoe hit it with a header (73rd minute).

The final stages were intense, with plenty of tackles and hard work — but no further goals. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Conclusion & Outlook
