Viktoria strikes early and late: The 2-0 (1-0) win at Eintracht Frankfurt's U20 team marks the third consecutive victory for FCV – and a jump in the table.
At the end of September, we faced the first team in the cup, and on Sunday it was the U20s' turn. SGE coach Julia Simic fielded some prominent names against our Sky Blues: Dilara and Ilayda Açikgöz, who usually play in the Bundesliga, were in the starting line-up for this second division match.
But it was to no avail: Bundesliga experience prevailed on the other side, namely on ours. Maya Hahn gave FCV an early lead by applying decisive pressure with a press in the penalty area and deflecting the ball into the Frankfurt goal (4'). Hahn's first goal for Viktoria, a curious one, admittedly.
Viktoria presses Frankfurt
The Frankfurt players were visibly impressed, leaving Viktoria plenty of space in their own half and failing to get out of their own half themselves. Himmelblau stood tall and put the hosts under pressure. This led to a number of corners, but none of them could be converted (9', 23', 29').
As the first half progressed, Eintracht found their way into the game better, pushing forward from time to time. But their passes were too inaccurate or the Viktoria defence was there to clear.
Our Viktoria team also started the second half better than Frankfurt, again with a corner. It took the hosts three attempts to clear it (48'). Otherwise, it was a scrappy game with few dangerous chances. Viktoria had two free kicks, but Frankfurt cleared them (55', 57').
Wasiak strikes late
Captain Nina Ehegötz tested goalkeeper Janne Krumme next after running onto a great pass from Sarah Stöckmann down the left wing. However, her shot from around 20 metres was a little too weak and posed no problem for Krumme (65'). A little later, it was Ehegötz vs. Krumme again, and once more Krumme came out on top, clearing Ehegötz's shot for a corner (71').
This didn't help our team – but it did help SGE, who launched a counterattack! Amira Dahl received the ball in the centre and seemed to have left Hahn and Anna Ursem behind. But she failed to control the ball, Ursem was on hand and cleared for a corner. Shortly before the end, our Sky Blues sealed the deal: substitute Maja Wasiak was completely unmarked at the far left post after a corner and the first period of added time and put the ball over the line (85'). Her first goal of the season made it 2-0 for Viktoria, the game was decided!
Third win in a row, leap in the table
With this third consecutive victory, Viktoria is now one of four teams with 14 points – jumping from 10th to 7th place. Next weekend is actually cup weekend, but since we unfortunately missed out on the round of 16, the match against SV Meppen from matchday 6 is rescheduled instead. Kick-off is on Sunday, 16 November, at 11 a.m.

Maya Hahn's early goal truly set the tone for FC Viktoria's impressive win against Eintracht Frankfurt's U20 team. It's fascinating how Bundesliga experience played a crucial role in securing the victory. The article provides a vivid account of Tunnel Rush
