In the rescheduled match of the sixth match day against SV Meppen, FC Viktoria couldn't hold up. With a score of 0-3 (0-3) and due to two penalties, they had to admit defeat in the north.
The first action of the match belonged to our Viktoria: Meppen goalkeeper Thea Farwick played a pass outside the penalty area that was too short and went straight to Sarah Abu Sabbah's feet! Our number 10 tried to lob the ball into the empty goal, but aimed a little too far to the left (2').
FCV early behind
Just a few minutes later, Meppen had the opportunity to take a free kick from a good position, about 20 metres in front of the goal. Michèle Tschudin made a strong save but was unable to hold onto the ball. As she chased after it, she also caught Meppen's Laura Bröring – and referee Amelie Lainka awarded a penalty. Anouk Blaschka took it, and although Tschudin was in the right corner, she couldn't get there, leaving Viktoria trailing 0-1 early on (7').
FCV tried to get into the game, but Meppen stood strong, shifted positions and closed down the space. For their part, they created chances with Bröring, the league's top scorer, who broke through on the right and ran towards Tschudin in goal. Our goalkeeper managed to deflect the shot, but not enough to keep it out of the goal. The ball rolled over the goal line at the far post to make it 0-2 (20').
This time, Viktoria reacted quickly, pushing forward with pressure and managing to do so down the right wing. However, the cross into the box was intercepted by a Meppen player (22').
Another penalty for Meppen
But Himmelblau didn't let up: Anna Ursem started from the defence and made her way into the Meppen penalty area, but shot straight at goalkeeper Thea Farwick (29'). Captain Nina Ehegötz also tested the goalkeeper after a nice move (32').
It was during this strong phase that Viktoria suffered another shock: another penalty. Once again, a Meppen player had gone down at the edge of the penalty area, pursued by Ursem, who - according to the referee - had touched her opponent. Blaschka stepped up again and once again slotted the ball into the bottom right corner to make it 0-3 (39').
Almost immediately afterwards, Sarah Abu Sabbah, Maya Hahn and Pia Metzker caused alarm in front of the Meppen goal – but the final pass to Metzker was too inaccurate and the opportunity was wasted.
Scattered second half seals defeat
The second half was mostly scattered. Meppen slowed down a bit, while Viktoria failed to convert their attacks into big opportunities. It wasn't until the 76th minute that there was another dangerous attack on the Meppen goal, but the cross from substitute Maja Wasiak was intercepted (76'). At the other end, Meppen tried their luck from long range, but Tschudin made the save (82').
This means that Viktoria remain without a goal for only the second time this season and remain in seventh place in the table. Next week, we will be looking to pick up three more points at home at the Lichterfelde Stadium, when Borussia Mönchengladbach come to visit.
