Heartbreaking Season Finale Against Magdeburg.

The bright blue sky over Stadion Lichterfelde on Sunday against Magdeburger FFC perfectly matched the FC Viktoria Berlin kits. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite match the mood, as we had to say some very emotional goodbyes to several players. Before kick-off, we bid farewell on the field to Anina Sange (with FCV since 2019), Selina Grosch (also with us since 2019), Dilara Agac (at FCV since 2014), Mona Sarr (joined in 2022), and co-captain Marlies Sänger (with the team since 2011). Our team managers Dagmar and Annette will also be leaving the club.

Surprise From Magdeburg After Less Than Ten Minutes

The game started as expected: FC Viktoria Berlin took control. Just two minutes in, Leyila Aydin had a great chance to make it 1-0 but narrowly missed the right post (2'). After eight minutes and more missed opportunities, the momentum suddenly shifted: goalkeeper Julia Haake was put under so much pressure that she had no choice but to commit a foul, a penalty for Magdeburg! Theresa Große calmly slotted it home to give Magdeburger FFC a 1-0 lead (9').

The goal initially gave Magdeburg some confidence in defense. But it didn’t last long, as Viktoria struck back. More specifically, Aylin Yaren. After a cross from Aydin on the left, Yaren finally found the back of the net (16'). Less than a minute later, Louise Trapp worked her magic, sending a long ball from the left into the goal to give Viktoria a 2-1 lead (17').

Goal-Scoring Streak Begins

And with that, the floodgates opened: Yaren scored twice (22', 35'), framing a goal by Trinity Künzel (26'). Just before halftime, Aydin struck the crossbar – she got the rebound, but her header hit the top of the net (43'). The teams went into the break with Viktoria leading 5-1.

The second half continued with more goals and only one direction: towards the Magdeburg goal. Just four minutes after the restart, Kim Urbanek made it 6-1 (49'), increasing her tally as the club’s top scorer to 17 goals. The 7-1 for Viktoria came from Eunice Beckmann (62').

A Guard Of Honour For The Farewell.

The most emotional moment for the 380 spectators came twenty minutes before the end: our two captains, Stephanie Gerken and Marlies Sänger, were substituted. All the Viktoria players formed a guard of honor and escorted Gerken and Sänger off the field, with Sänger playing her final game for FCV after thirteen years.

As Neele Abraham scored once more for Magdeburg just before the end, the final match of the 2023/24 season in the Regionalliga Nordost ended with an 8-2 victory for FC Viktoria Berlin. Summer break awaits, with the Regionalliga Nordost resuming in August for the 2024/25 season. We’re looking forward to welcoming you back to Stadion Lichterfelde in such great numbers next season!
