Meyer scores the winner: Viktoria beats Meppen 1:0

On matchday 5 of the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga, FC Viktoria Berlin defeated SV Meppen 1:0 (0:0), who had been unbeaten until then – drawing level on points with the visitors.
Sunshine with a few clouds over Lichterfelde, 19 degrees and 557 spectators in the stadium: wearing all-turquoise kits, coach Miren Ćatović's team welcomed the white-clad visitors from Emsland, who had arrived with four wins from four games. New in the squad: Antonia Halverkamps, who had only switched from Bundesliga side 1. FC Union Berlin to Lichterfelde this week and went straight into the starting line-up. The 25-year-old brings over 100 Bundesliga appearances with her, most of them for MSV Duisburg, where she made her top-flight debut at the age of 17. Missing from the squad, on the other hand, was Anna Ursem, who left the club at her own request.
Viktoria take charge immediately
From the start it was clear who wanted to dictate this game. Viktoria put Meppen under pressure early on, barely letting the visitors out of their own half, and had the first big chance in the 5th minute: Senanur Yavuz got a shot away from close range but was denied by Meppen goalkeeper Carla Steenken. The corner count showed just how one-sided the opening phase was: after 13 minutes it already stood at 3:0 in the hosts' favor.
No reward before the break
Meppen struggled to get into the game and increasingly resorted to small fouls, one of which earned a yellow card. From the half-hour mark the match became more balanced overall, though the visitors were unable to create any real chances from it. Their most dangerous moment before the break was a long-range shot in the 43rd minute, which Melanie Wagner gathered safely. On the other side, the goal still wouldn't come, so it was 0:0 at halftime.
Meyer fires it into the near corner
After the break, Viktoria picked up right where they had left off. In the 52nd minute Christin Meyer tried a low shot from distance, and a minute later she headed a corner just over the bar. On the third attempt it finally went in: in the 57th minute Meyer fired the ball into the near corner – an absolutely deserved lead.
Coasting to the finish
Viktoria remained the dominant team afterward and gave away almost nothing at the back. In the 81st minute, Ćatović made a double substitution: Nina Ehegötz and Maya Hahn came on for Leyila Aydin and Senanur Yavuz. Ehegötz almost sealed the win right away when Steenken played the ball into her feet from close range in the 85th minute – but the shot went wide. One of the few scares came in the 88th minute, when Lotte Masseling found herself clear in front of the Berlin goal for Meppen, but shot wide to the left. Shortly before the end, Sarah Klotz came on for Halverkamps, and then the home win was secure – with a corner count of 8:2.
