The roles were clearly defined on matchday five of the Regional League North-East between Viktoria Berlin and Fortuna Dresden. Viktoria had just given up the top spot to Union Berlin, while newly promoted Fortuna Dresden was sitting second to last in the table.
Dresden Under Pressure from the Start
This was how the match unfolded on the first autumn matchday at the Stadion Lichterfelde, despite several absences. The regular starters Danya Barsalona, Aylin Yaren, Anna Höfker, and goalkeeper Inga Buchholz were either not in the squad or at least not in the starting eleven. Despite the marathon in the city, 335 spectators found their way to the Stadion Lichterfelde.
Just seconds after kick-off, captain Marlies Sänger almost made the first statement, narrowly missing a cross from the left (1’). The tone was set, and it didn’t take long before the ball found the back of the net. Viktoria pushed forward with determination early on, and after a cross from Corinna Statz, Nina Ehegötz made it 1-0 for Himmelblau (3’).
Urbanek's Hat-trick
After that, things happened in quick succession, mainly thanks to Kim Urbanek. Viktoria’s number 16 scored a hat-trick in under ten minutes. For the 2-0, she was left far too free on the left side and calmly slotted the ball in (12’), the 3-0 was a header – and before the 4-0, an offside goal by Ehegötz was disallowed (21’). Fortuna was completely overwhelmed. Only Nele Ewert in the visitors' goal prevented an even larger defeat with some strong saves (13’).
However, even Ewert couldn’t stop Viktoria’s attacking play, particularly Urbanek. Just three minutes after her hat-trick, Urbanek added another goal for Himmelblau (24’).
After half an hour, Dresden managed their first shot: Jennifer Keller took a long-range effort, but Viktoria’s goalkeeper Julia Haake, standing in for Inga Buchholz, stretched but wisely pulled back, letting the ball drift wide of the right post (29’).
6-0 After 36 Minutes Against Dresden
That was just a brief moment for the visitors, as Viktoria continued to increase their goal tally. In her second match of the season, Statz scored her first goal for Himmelblau after the already impressive Louise Trapp had rounded goalkeeper Ewert (36’). Viktoria had further good chances (Trapp 41’, Ehegötz 42’), and Ewert made two more excellent saves (43’, 45+1), but Ehegötz still made it 7-0 before halftime (45’), assisted by a lovely through ball from Urbanek.
This time, Viktoria took a bit longer to find the back of the net again. Fortuna defended with more courage and even pushed forward through Carolin Zeidler and Carolin Hänichen (49’). However, such actions were rare, and Viktoria kept dominating. After 15 minutes, Urbanek (who else on this day?) scored her fifth goal (60’). She had come close just before and was substituted shortly after her fifth goal to great applause. Jule Reh replaced her.
Wasiak Seals the Dozen
A disallowed goal from Ehegötz (62’), several chances for Statz (64’, 66’), and Trapp (69’) followed, but the next goal came from an own goal by Dresden’s Jenny Heyder (70’). Ehegötz provided another highlight of the day with a beautifully executed free kick from the left, about 20 metres out, making it 10-0 (74’). Trapp then added her goal near the end (88’), and substitute Maja Wasiak capped off the scoring with the 12-0 just before the final whistle (89’). Referee Sabrina Schulz blew the whistle right on time, without adding any extra minutes.
The next home game will be a bit of a wait. In just over a month (Sunday, 22nd October), Viktoria will face Carl Zeiss Jena II at the Stadion Lichterfelde. Before that, on Sunday, 1st October, the first clash against newly taken over Hertha BSC awaits.
