Cold, wet weather, 11 degrees, constant rain – but FC Viktoria Berlin were completely unfazed in Wolfsburg. With a well-deserved 3–1 (1–0) victory from Viktoria’s perspective against VfL Wolfsburg II, we move up the table from eighth to fifth place – and make a statement.
Early Dominance and the Crossbar
From the very beginning, it was clear who intended to control this match. As early as the 3rd minute, the first shot whistled just wide of the Wolves’ goal. Viktoria were fully alert, aggressive in counter-pressing and constantly pushing forward.
In the 9th minute, birthday girl Nina Ehegötz (29) fired the ball into the left side netting – that would have been the perfect script. Shortly before, Pia Metzker had even rattled the crossbar with a header.
The opening goal was in the air – and it came.
After a corner, Metzker reacted quickly and forced the lead through an own goal by the Wolfsburg defense in the 17th minute, making it a fully deserved 1–0 for FC Viktoria Berlin.
Viktoria kept up the pressure. After a foul on Sarah Klotz, the referee pointed to the spot – but Sarah Stöckmann sent the penalty over the bar. Shortly before halftime, a central free kick was comfortably saved by Wolfsburg’s goalkeeper.
So it was 1–0 at the break – rain pouring down, but with momentum on our side.
Ehegötz scores the perfect birthday gift for herself
Right after the restart, Viktoria remained in control. Senanur Yavuz tested the defense with a powerful shot that narrowly missed to the right.
Then came the 53rd minute: handball penalty for FC Viktoria Berlin. Anna Höfker stepped up – but was denied. Nina Ehegötz reacted quickest and gave herself the perfect birthday present, scoring to make it 2–0.
Shortly after, Leyila Aydin came on for Yavuz (56’). From the 60th minute onward, the heavy rain slowed the game down a bit and the wave of chances briefly subsided.
But in the 70th minute, Viktoria clearly took control again, combining dangerously in front of goal – and then the 80th minute: game sealed! A sharply delivered corner sailed through the box and, under pressure, the Wolfsburg defense turned the ball into their own net – 3–0!
The response, however, came immediately. Just one minute later, Wolfsburg pulled one back to make it 3–1. But things never became truly dangerous again.
In the 81st minute, FC Viktoria Berlin made a triple substitution to bring fresh energy onto the pitch – and after 90+4 minutes, it was all over. Away win in the rain!
Conclusion
FC Viktoria Berlin were clearly the dominant team for large stretches of the match. Despite missing two penalties, the team stayed focused, controlled the game and rewarded themselves with three important points.
With this victory, we climb from eighth to fifth place in the table – a strong leap upward and a real statement as the season progresses.
Next up is a friendly on March 5 against 1. FC Union Berlin, before league action resumes on March 15 against SV Meppen.
