Only one week to go until the new season kicks off for Himmelblau (Sky Blue)! On Saturday, after an intense pre-season, Viktoria completed their final test before the first round of the DFB-Pokal. FC St. Pauli, a team from the same league in northern Germany, were the guests at the Stadion Lichterfelde.
Early Lead for the Himmelblau
Two teams from the same league level – this should have been a match on an equal level. But on the pitch, Viktoria immediately took control of the game. The visitors, especially in the first half, offered surprisingly little going forward. So, it didn’t take long for FCV to take the lead: Trinity Künzel converted the second shot on goal to make it 1-0 (7’).
Künzel was in great form, energising the game with impressive dribbles and several more shots on goal. However, in the first half, she, along with Nina Ehegötz, Leyila Aydin, and Kim Urbanek, couldn’t find a way past St. Pauli’s excellent goalkeeper, Lisa-Sophie Kaisik. Just before halftime, Kaisik barely managed to tip a header from Urbanek off the line (45’).
Quick Double Strike in the Second Half
In the second half, our Himmelblau players managed to put the ball in the net two more times, and both goals came in quick succession. Ehegötz (62’) and Aydin (67’) each found themselves unmarked in front of the goalkeeper and finished with composure.
Overall, the pace of the game wasn’t particularly high, and the heat of the day was noticeable, especially in the closing minutes. Michéle Tschudin made another good save in our goal, but otherwise, St. Pauli remained largely harmless. The final test match ended with a 3-0 win for Himmelblau – the best possible preparation for advancing to the second round of the cup on Sunday, 18th August, against SV Henstedt-Ulzburg in the Hamburg area!

Nice to see a solid performance in a friendly match—games like this are great for testing tactics and giving players more match experience, even if the result isn’t the main focus. It’s always interesting to see how teams adapt and build chemistry in these fixtures.
