Viktoria & Andernach share points

In a wild game, FC Viktoria Berlin and SG 99 Andernach shared the points with a 2-2 (2-2) draw. Goalkeeper Tschudin saved a penalty in the last minute to secure the point.

It was an exciting game that began with a lot of pressure from the opponents from Andernach. With pressure – and with success for the Andernach team: Magdalena Schumacher confidently headed a corner past Michèle Tschudin into the net (5'), making it 0-1 just shortly after the start. In the previous action, Tschudin had shown a great reaction at her right corner of the five-meter box, but she had no chance against the header.

But Viktoria didn't let that sit for too long, especially not Nina Ehegötz. Our captain equalized six minutes later to make it 1-1, finding the far corner (11'). Sky Blue got into the game a little better now and was soon rewarded once again. Aylin Yaren at first missed the chance to take the lead, but provided a beautiful assist for the second goal only moments later. Leyila Aydin had plenty of space in front of her after Yaren's pass, Aydin ran towards the SG Andernach goal and fired off a powerful shot to make it 2-1 for Viktoria (19')!

What a wild start up until then! And it continued: Now it was the guests, who didn't wait too long for their goal. Leonie Krump made her way through the box and equalised for Andernach (23'). 2-2 after 23 minutes - that promised a lot!

A tough second half

A promise that the rest of the game couldn't keep. SG Andernach didn't play like you'd expect from last year's eleventh-place team; they played like they did two years ago when they almost got promoted (they were sure to get promoted, but couldn't do it financially), dominating most of the first half. Time and again, Tschudin between the posts or her teammates in front of her were called upon to defuse situations. Still: Aydin and Ehegötz made some runs, but were then caught offside (31') or failed to finish well enough (34'). A promising shot from Sarah Abu Sabbah was cleared for a corner (45'+2).

The second half also began promisingly with chances for Leonie Krump for SG Andernach (51') and Aydin for our Viktoria (52'). The defense also had a lot to do again, but overall this half was rather tough. Many minor fouls, substitutions, and treatment breaks dominated the action. Our FCV took control in the last half hour, but there were no major chances. Laura Casanovas tried her luck with a long-range free kick (76'), and shortly before the end, Maya Hahn also curled the ball just over the bar from distance (88').

Tschudin saves a penalty

So it seemed as though the score would remain 2-2 until the final whistle – but that was not to be. In the last minute, referee Celina Böhm awarded a penalty to SG Andernach! The ball had bounced awkwardly off one of our players' arms... Maren Weingarz faced Michèle Tschudin in a direct duel for one point for Viktoria or three for Andernach. And Tschudin saved! She blocked the ball with her left foot while jumping to the corner and then held on to it (90+5).

A draw, and therefore one point for Viktoria at the start of the second division. This means – although not very meaningful on the first match day – a shared sixth place in the table with Andernach. Next week, we travel south to Ingolstadt on August 31. The next home game is on September 7 at 2 p.m. at the Lichterfelde Stadium against 1. FSV Mainz 05.
